Cheryl and Hard-Fi in Covent Garden, London

I’ve been a bit nervouse about shooting people in London since arriving on Monday evening.

1) There’s a lot of very cool looking people.

2) Here I’m “Just Another Fucking Australian” so I don’t think my accent’s going to do me any favours.

3) The London Underground is nuts. It’s quite claustrophobic and it’s got a really negative vibe… today when I tried to re-enter London Bridge station I was confronted by a huge crowd begrudgingly leaving the station as sirens whined out loud. I overheard a girl saying that she saw a guy jump infront of the train, that’s why it was all shut down.

Anyway I managed to get this shot of Cheryl (Pronounced Cheryl not Cheryl).

Through her lime green headphones Cheryl was listening to an English indie band that’s named after a style of reggae music …

STRAYING

It may seem contradictory to say “I’ve bee traveling for two weeks” and then proclaim “I haven’t been on any trains” but that’s what I’m saying.

So here’s a few posts of some people I found in the streets of Reykjavik, Stockholm and London.

I’ll be back in NYC next week and that’s when I’ll return to shooting people on the train lines.

Is what you see the same as what they hear?

New posts coming from London on Monday

Yo!

I’ve shot a bunch of people in the last week but I haven’t had a chance to upload pics yet. Please be patient, I’ll have them up on Monday once I land in London.

E. & E. International

I landed in Reykjavik about 10 hours ago and I’m here until Sunday then Paris for 3 days, Stockholm for 5 days and London for a week or so then back to NYC so prepare for the first international posts for E & E.

Mia & Kimbumsu on The Air Train

I saw Mia yesterday morning on my way to JFK airport and despite our language differences (she’s from Korea) we managed to make this post happen.

Mia was listening to this Korean act who’s video I don’t know how to embed so just click on the image and to link through to the video…

Adam & Dead Meadow on The L Train

I met Adam on the way over to Manhattan last night at about 6pm and it seems that everyone here knows an Australian somehow so Adam and I got along pretty well - he even knows what a flat white is! But that’s probably because he’s a barista at one of the better coffee shops in NYC called Jo’s.

Adam was listening to a psyc/lo-fi sounding band who are a bit like a lot of bands that we used to book at the night I ran back in Sydney called MUM

Jamil & Big Sean on The F Train

I bumped into Jamil late last night on the F train. He was super chill about getting shot and was looking pretty fresh for a dude that’s just turned 20.

Jamil was listening to this rapper who got his break by freestyling to Kanye in the hallway at a radio station…

Julia & Adult on The L Train

Julia was about to be the third person to turn E & E because she said she felt like crap but I wanted to get her on here because although she’s not popping eyes with colour, she’s looking sharp and effortless with that bag and shoe combo. I ended up convincing her to agree and then we wound up talking so long that I missed getting the cute asian girl who’s sitting down in the background.

Julia was listening to this band I’ve never heard before but I kind of like…

Lucas & John Legend on The L Train

Lucas was really talkative. He told me about how he was just coming from a shoot at FHM, how he is staring in “Blue’s for Mr. Charlie”, how he was actually born in Manhattan (the first true local I’ve met in 3 months) and he also told me where he got the amazing red shorts from.

While catching the L into Brooklyn at 8.30pm last night Lucas was listening to this fun nu-soul track that came out back in 2005…

Bonus Track 1: If you’re partial to a bit of new soul you have to listen to this guy, and be sure to watch beyond the 4.19 mark for the reggae version to drop…

Bonus Track 2: At 3.10 in this video Aloe Blacc’s girlfriend who’s one of Australia’s finest female MC’s cuts in for a verse…

Ellis and Tyler The Creator on The L Train

Again it was too hot for people to bother with headphones but at 8.20pm on the L train I met Ellis.

Ellis was listening to the main man from the most hyped act of 2011…

OFWGKTA performed yesterday in Sydney for Vivid Festival. My buddy Kenny shot their gig, click here for images.

Loretta & Jay-Z on The R Train

Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls was the MVP in this years National Basketball Association and he won a lot of fans not just because of his skills on the court but because he didn’t seem like a jerk AKA Kobe and Lebron. One of those fans he won over was me so when I saw Loretta rocking a Bulls shirt in NYC I had to talk to her and get her on Eyeholes and Earholes.

Loretta who is soon shipping herself and her Bulls shirt off to LA was tuning into the opening track from Mr NYC’s last album…

Bonus Track:

Back in 2009 the guest vocalist on the above track put out a brilliant album matched with theatrical filmclips (go watch them all), and in a few weeks his band will be playing here in NYC at The Governors Ball Music Festival.

Bonus Track 2:

Here’s another great Australian band who’ll be playing at the same festival.

Kiel and Juvenile on The N Train

I met Kiel yesterday afternoon on the hottest day since I’ve been here in NYC. It was about 30C / High 80s and I expected to find a gazillion people rocking fresh fibres… there were a few people dressed finely but their ears were sweating too much to bother stuffing music into them and everyone else was going for the 73% naked look so when I saw this dude on the Q Train with his smooth striped shirt I hollered at him to find out that he’s 1) a rad dude 2) this is last night’s outfit (it was 5.45pm and he was just going home from partying) and 3) he’s the door host at a raw bar called Lit Lounge.

Kiel was listening to a groove that wasn’t intended to be a tribute song but the songs producer Soulja Slim was shot dead before it’s official release, hence all of the black “R.I.P. Soulja Slim” T-shirts.

Fantastic, beautiful, wonderful idea! Combining my two favorite things in the whole wide world. Sending good vibes your way...this is fantastic!

Cool I’m stoked that you’re into it. Please re-post and help me hype the page.

Have a great weekend

Ray & Sublime (?)

I was uptown when I spotted Ray on the F train yesterday afternoon and sure he’s probably just over 50 but that’s a pretty fresh suit and tie combo so I had to get him on Eyeholes & Earholes.

I’m may have misheard Ray when he told me what he was listening to so it was either this…

Or it might of been this cool punk/ska band from the early/mid 90s…

BONUS TRACK:

The above song reminds me of this next song which was featured on the first edition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Ahhhh the memories of blistered thumbs.

Eyeholes & Earholes is what happens when a street fashion and a music blog scissor.

See what people on NYCs subway network are wearing and hear what they're listening to.
